Miscellaneous: Karwa Chauth : A traditional Hindu festival for married women
Karwa Chauth is celebrated on the chaturthi tithi after the full Moon in the month of kartik in the Hindu calendar. Karwa Chauth to be observed at moonrise (chandrodaya vyapini) and poorvaviddha, best if its tritiya viddha. If visible during both days take the first one, if not visible on both days then take the second one. Married women fast one whole day without food or water for the long life of their husbands. The ritual signifies extreme love and devotion to the husband, as evidenced by the wife's willingness to suffer for his well being.

IndiaShining: STD is cheaper now as BSNL slashed rates upto 50 percent
India's largest telecom service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) on slashed STD charges on its cellular and fixed-line calls by upto 50 percent. As per the announcement, STD rates for landline services have been reduced from Rs2.40 to 1.20 paise per minute to all networks . Rural customers can avail STD calls for 0.80 paise per minute. The intra-circle call charges to BSNL network and inter circle (STD) call charges to all the networks, has also been reduced by 50 percent.

Miscellaneous: Men prefer meat, Women prefer vegetables
Men and women have different choices in food, with men favouring meat and poultry, and women fruits and vegetables, researchers said in what was touted as the most extensive study to date of gender differences in eating habits. Women instead were more likely to eat vegetables, especially carrots and tomatoes, and fruits, especially strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and apples. Women also preferred dry foods, such as almonds and walnuts, and were more likely to consume eggs and yogurt when compared with men. The difference remained the same when it came to fruits such as strawberries, raspberries and nuts. In addition, men were more likely to eat risky foods like undercooked hamburgers and runny eggs, while women were more likely to eat alfalfa sprouts.
