News: The Myths and Reality of Your Credit Card

What you don't know could hurt you. Credit card issuers can be pretty closelipped about their practices, and even those who proclaim themselves experts in the field can get it wrong.

News: RBI raises repo, CRR by 50 basis points to tame prices

Under relentless pressure to control inflation, RBI on Tuesday hiked both short-term lending rate and mandatory cash reserve for banks by 50 basis points each, a move that could force banks to raise interest rates on loans to corporate and consumers. It has been decided that the short-term lending rate (repo) is increased from 8 per cent to 8.50 per cent with immediate effect, RBI said in a notification here. Besides, the Cash Reserve Ratio, the amount that banks need to maintain with RBI, will be increased by 50 basis points to 8.75 per cent in two stages, effective from a fortnight beginning from July 5 and July 19. The RBI's decision came within days of the Finance Ministry saying that monetary steps are the first line of defence in fight against inflation which touched 13-year high of 11.05 per cent for the week ended June 7. The RBI had earlier increased the repo rate by 0.25 per cent to 8 per cent on June 11.

News: 'India has great opportunities, you just have to take your chances'

With no place to stay and just an office address, Makrand Maiende arrived at the Nizamuddin railway station in Delhi. He was 21. It was his first day at his first job in a city he was visiting for the first time. The offer letter had been given to him at a job fair in Indore the week before. The job was for a call centre in Gurgaon. Rs 10,000 was the salary offered -- and since he hadn't got through the entrance exams to management colleges this seemed a good stop-gap work option. Winter was on the retreat that March morning in 2006 as Makrand haggled with an autorickshaw outside the station, finally settling at Rs 40 for the ride. The Rs 2,000 his mother had given him was tucked safely inside his wallet. As the auto rattled on Delhi's roads, the commerce graduate thought of his home in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district. He was anxious about the day ahead, but thrilled at the thought that he had left home to make a life at 21, when his father did so at 27.

LetsDiscuss: Applying to college? Make an informed choice

I think this is one of the most imp decision of ones life except marriage and career... ur future depends upon the college u select... ur way of looking at the world, ur knowledge and other social norms u beleive in depends highly upon the college education... the peer grp and other such elements... one thing I DONT LIKE IS THE PREJUDICE OPINION ABT COLLEGES... most of the students i have seen beleive only town colleges are good and not suburban colleges.... but i would like to say through a personal experience that there are many top quality colleges in the suburbs which are better than their counterparts in town but due to the already existimg opinion get very little chance to debvelop.....many town colleges just are successful due to their names whereas the functioning is worse than the suburban colleges......

News: Why can’t Petrol Price be reduced by our Government?

If Central Govt. wish, it can still reduce the price of petrol in the current crisis situation, but it doesn't intend to do so, instead trying to fool the people and Nation. Just generating more profits for the oil marketing companies.
