A swashbuckling 93 off 106 balls by wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik's 58 from 60 deliveries powered India to victory in the first ODI against Bangladesh at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka on Thursday.
Dhoni, who survived a leg before appeal earlier in the innings, smashed seven boundaries and picked up the Man of the Match award.
Scorecard
India's chase began on a weak note as the visitors lost three wickets merely on 63 runs. Virender Sehwag once again failed to post a good total. He scored 30 off 21 with seven fours.
Gautam Gambhir, who was picked up in the squad despite his poor performance, could also not perform upto the selector's expectations as his cameo of 21 runs off 17 balls ended in the fifth over of the innings.
Yuvraj Singh gifted his wicket cheaply, scoring just one run. But skipper Rahul Dravid stabilise the innings along with Dhoni and added 49 runs for the fourth wicket.
Earlier, after electing to bat first the Bangladesh opening batsman Javed Omar and Shakib al Hasan smashed aggressive half centuries to power Bangladesh to a competitive 250 runs for seven wickets against India in a rain-shortened first ODI.
The match was shortened to 47 overs per innings after rain twice delayed the start by about 50 minutes at Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Omar shared a solid, 78-run opening stand with Tamim Iqbal.
Omar and Shakib al Hasan steadied the innings with a 107-run, third wicket partnership, before Omar was run out by Zaheer Khan for 80, which came off 117 balls and included seven fours and two sixes.
Hasan went on to hit 50 off 67 balls, with two boundaries, until he was stumped by Mahendra Dhoni off a Mongia ball.
Mongia led the Indian bowling attack with figures of three wickets for 49 runs. Powar had 2-55, while Sehwag added 1-46.
Bangladesh earlier replaced injured fast bowler Mashrafe bin Mortaza with Shahadat Hossain in the final XI, while India's rookie middle order batsman Manoj Tiwary also missed out because of an injury.
Bangladesh made it to the Super 8s stage of the just concluded World Cup in the Caribbean after upsetting former champion India, hastening its larger neighbour's departure in the preliminary round.

Coming from one of the remotest village of the remotest district in India (Balotra, Barmer Dist, Raj) , I can truely say that since 1991 the country has changed at 180 degree for real good, contrary to what these people have reported:-
Just ask these reporters if they have asked the following questions to the villagers:-
1. Access to basic facilities i.e. clean drinking water, electricity and better healthcare (ofcourse at the cost of a nominal price)???
2. Access to better Telecom facilities (ie STD / ISD in almost every village and availability of telephones / cell phones even in villages)
3. Access to better employment oppurtunities (in PVT SECTOR ONLY) even in rural areas of the country!!!
Ofcourse, most of us here do NOT know how the Internet works or Why Internet works, but ofcourse, we all know that it really HELPS US, and thats what MATTERS!!

Has the K'taka Government ever considered the pathetic infrastructure of Bangalore City (ooopsss.. its Banagaluru)??
It seems its becoming a fashion to ban anything which gets out of some 'standard' but never give a try for logical or analytical reasons behind it.
I'm sure that if the Quality of Air is measured of the Banagaluru City, definitely its NOT healthy as per the 'standards', so I guess the Karnataka Government even would try to Ban the Air or even worse they may even ban ALL Automobiles at all...
Guys, grow up, learn something from Delhi Govt. which made the city dropped from World's 2nd Largest Polluted City to something quite below, thanks to the CNG drive.
All these Soft drink Manufacturers ARE NOT MAKING there own water, they are simply taking it from the Ground Water Table, if the Ground Water itself is polluted what these cola companies can do about it (at least I'm sure that they don't want buy pesticides and mix it with the drinks!!!)
Finally has the so called NGO ever tested the water that they get from the Municipal Corporation? Every year so many people die due to water born diseases yet no official from the Water Supply department gets punished or worse I never heard any government banning the Municipal Water Supply being banned in a City!!
