Having just finished a commissioned work I was fairly well cushioned financially. With Phaidon’s “The Twentieth Century Art Book" under my arms, visiting the Hyderabad Central University Library, studying each artist mentioned in the book both extensively and intensively, heavy headed by evening, sketching in between, not very sure where this was leading to in spite of having walked the holy trail of twentieth century art as it had been, I found myself slowly rediscovering this world of art in the language it spoke in; in the language of contexts, conceptions and movements. I stocked up painting material for whatever I was expecting to happen and looking forward to do. Quite certain as to how and where I was placed with respect to the contemporary state of art, I found myself on a long haul. I had these works starting one fine day as an empty black frame painted with oils on a blank canvas, being as barren personally as was possible in my approach to its execution, to have the object rendered in its isolation.
