LetsDiscuss: Jan Lokpal Bill
India has faced much corruption in 60+ years since they got independence. The economy was under the socialistic policies untill the 1980's. The major problems is due to the political corruption and bureaucratic, taxes and bribes. According to the study of Transparency International 2010 India is amongst the most corrupt governments in the world.
Jan Lokpal bill is the anti – corruption bill which would create an independent body.Jan Lokpal Bill is citizen’s ombudsman bill, the word has derived from the Hindi words lok means people and pal means protector so overall Lokpal means “protector of people”.
The origin of Jan Lokpal bill was from Ombusman in U.K. New Zealand. Jan Lokpal primarily included setting up of an Ombusman. A ombusman is a person who acts as a trusted intermediary between the two parties it can be either between a oraganization and constituency and it can also be between government and citizens.
Anna Hazre is the face of India's fight against corruption. He is the anti-corruption activist began fast unto death till the Jan Lokpal Bill is enacted. He stated his group has received more than 6 crore SMS from all over India in its support and the bill also has large supporters from the Internet activists. Within two or three days of his fasting the word Jan Lokpal bill widespread like virus over Facebook, Twitter, mails, messages and over new media and people from all over India supported Anna Hazare, the name which people don't know became a famous personality and drove constitutions attention.
Some of the features of the Jan Lokpal Bill
It is an independent body.
The setup should consist of the three members. One member should be the retire of servicing Chief Justice of India. The other two members should be retired or servicing judge of the Supreme Court or the High Court.
Lok Ayukta should be set independently for each state.
Common citizen would be benefited by this if their work is not done in any government office on time and the officers responsible for this will imposed penalty and the citizens will be compensated for the loss incurred. LokPal will have to get done this within one month. The citizens can also report any case of corruption like cancellation of ration card or poor quality roads or panchayat fund had been siphoned off. Lokpal will be able to complete its investigation with in one year.
It will be the duty of the Lokpal to protect those who are raising their voice against corruption.
Anna Hazre plea of adding Lokpal bill was rejected by Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh so he began this movement.
