LetsDiscuss: Irom Sharmila's fast to un-fasten noose of AFSPA ...Part - III

Today, on news paper I find a news stating that renowned activist Medha Patkar is organizing rally from Jammu Kashmir to Manipur in support of Iriom Sharmila for her unending fight against AFSPA or Armed Forces Special Power Acts; now in force in all the North Eastern States and J&K. What surprises me; has Medha been sleeping for this long period of 11 years, ever since Irom Sharmila was on fast to repeal AFSPA? Or it was other lucrative issues like ‘Narmada Banchao”, oust Tata’s Nano plant from West Bengal and many more were more alluring to her to steal the lime light or strike the headlines! The incredible India and Indians!

Business: ITC and corporate responsibility !!

Corporate responsibilities are minimum in India; so their liabilities! Giants like Uni Liver, Hind Lever here or the indigenous house of Birlas, Ambanis or Ruias do hardly anything to protect the consumer's interest. They enjoyed the monopoly in post independence scenario at aegis of Nehruvian government and ideology of mixed economy. The protectionism only helped them to garner maxi

Health: Problem of workplace alcoholism

Hazards of alcoholism; it's impact in society or family are much discussed. Euphoric effects of alcohol has its flip sides too. Besides health hazards, it destroys family bondage, abets crimes but despite of all these drinking habits are ever increasing in Indian society. Elite, educated middle class , till recent past kept themselves afar from this evil now cherish this habit. In fact for some it has become a status symbol! Globalization for the past two decades provided impetus for the urge of spirits in true sense.

LetsDiscuss: A trip to Taki, West Bengal

Cyril Radcliffe, the Surveyor General of colonial India was delegated with task of dividing India into two nations India and Pakistan. He was preferred as he knew nothing about India, so presumably he could not be partisan. The result is his pen drew line for partition even on river bed. One such river is 'Ichamoti'. Taki is Indian town on the bank of it. I had trip there recently, here it is how did I feel...............

News: Jyoti Basu.....The Great Son of Bengal

I don't remember the exact date, but probably it was in the month of August 1991. I was attached as a free lancer to a least know weekly “ The Democratic Forum” ; my fancy to give a try to my journalistic flair was the sole motive with that association. My editor, Late Mr M.L. Shah was the person who was encouraging me. That day he came to my office and asked if I was free in the evening. Fortunately I was and asked him back the reason. He said Mr Jyoti Basu would give a press conference at the press club, Kolkata and if I wish I could attend that. It was a pleasant surprise ; so I readily agreed.

Miscellaneous: Do good & Remain Blessed!

A woman baked chapati for members of her family and an extra one For a hungry passerby. She kept the extra chapati on the Window-sill, for whosoever would take it away. Everyday, a hunchback came and took away the chapati. Instead of expressing gratitude, he muttered the following words as he went His way: "The evil you do remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!" This went on, day after day. Everyday, the hunch-back came, picked up the chapati and uttered the words: "The evil you do, remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!" The woman felt irritated. "Not a word of gratitude," she said to herself... "Everyday this hunchback utters this jingle! What does he mean?" One day, exasperated, she decided to do away with him. "I shall get rid of this hunchback," she said. And what did she do? She added poison to the Chapati she prepared for him! As she was about to keep it on the window sill, her hands trembled. "What is this I am doing?" she said. Immediately, she threw the chapati into the fire, prepared another one and kept it on the window- sill. As usual, the hunchback came, picked up the chapati and muttered the words: "The evil you do, remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!" The hunchback proceeded on his way, blissfully unaware of the war raging in the mind of the woman.

LetsDiscuss: India is on Reverse Gear!!!

In the advent of current millennium 2000; on the Republic Day i.e 26th January 2000, during Presidential address to the nation, the then President K R Narayanan foretold “ ………….. the first track of globalization is impeding the pedestrians to cross the road;………………. this may lead to civil wars…………………”; and now we find that he was true. Though he did not get second tenure to continue as President of India, what is presumed that he offended the Government by making such statement that revealed the bitter truths. During the past nine years after we entered into this millennium, lots of incidents have taken place like Iraq war, global depression and obviously further increase of terrorists insurgencies all over the world; specially this part of the planet. With the growing population in India, the greater part of Ind

LetsDiscuss: Nationalised Banks are turning their staffs bankrupts! (it seems to be a blog)

Mind you as of now; a General Manager in nationalised bank draws a salary lesser than that of a Section Officer of Central Government! A Probationary Officer of Bank gets lesser salary than a Clerk of Central Government and a Bank Clerk draws lesser than a Peon of Central Government. Most of the State Government employees of similar status enjoy emoluments far better than their counter parts in Banking Industries. This all is happening while Banking in India is most profitable industry. In all parameters this industry has been doing exceedingly wel
