Today, on news paper I find a news stating that renowned activist Medha Patkar is organizing rally from Jammu Kashmir to Manipur in support of Iriom Sharmila for her unending fight against AFSPA or Armed Forces Special Power Acts; now in force in all the North Eastern States and J&K. What surprises me; has Medha been sleeping for this long period of 11 years, ever since Irom Sharmila was on fast to repeal AFSPA? Or it was other lucrative issues like ‘Narmada Banchao”, oust Tata’s Nano plant from West Bengal and many more were more alluring to her to steal the lime light or strike the headlines! The incredible India and Indians!

How do we start our days in any of our metropolis or smaller town; the busy morning schedules to catch up with our times. Even in villages where the roads and electricity have reached; the life has become more or less same; the only difference for those who are associated with farming may start the day quite early. The day may vary from one to another due to various professional and occupational differences but for all our days pose no fear.
Imagine a morning you are passing by a bus stand in the outskirts of your town; people there as usual gathered to catch buses. All of sudden 'tara .. tara. ta. ; you find security perosonals on patrol opening fire to those in the bus stand with out a

“Marriages are made in heaven”- the old adage still holds sense some believe. Though the phenomenal rise of broken marriages; puts me in doubt. Do God approve broken marriage! Perhaps not; so no more marriages are made in heaven; I infer. Marriages are initiated either by love ( mostly calculated) or by arrangement in this part of our planet. When a marriage takes place as result of love between the bride and groom; well their parents have hardly any role to play. Except arranging and witnessing the marriage and of course wishing the bride would fit in groom's there after. This is true specially for nuclear family and they are parents of groom. Parents of bride enjoys more freedom, as some believe, as for their case it's almost like a take-over. They get their daughter married and get a son in term of son-in-law. Given to the fact when the daughter is economically independent; either earning by herself or has earning from other sources. Her parent expects or sometime covertly demand the service from their son-in-law in the name of duties! Poor boys sometime get entrapped and later seek salvation breaking their marriage. Sometime the reverse is true for the bride as well; though usually such incidents are rare; mostly they take their groom out of his parent’s hold and start a separate family.

I don't remember the exact date, but probably it was in the month of August 1991. I was attached as a free lancer to a least know weekly “ The Democratic Forum” ; my fancy to give a try to my journalistic flair was the sole motive with that association. My editor, Late Mr M.L. Shah was the person who was encouraging me. That day he came to my office and asked if I was free in the evening. Fortunately I was and asked him back the reason. He said Mr Jyoti Basu would give a press conference at the press club, Kolkata and if I wish I could attend that. It was a pleasant surprise ; so I readily agreed.
