News: Newspapers: Dumb, Fat & Lazy?

In other words, the newspaper industry is no different from the U.S. automobile sector — markedly out of step with the mainstream buyers of their products.

Tech: Speed Test: Windows 7 May Not Be Much Faster Than Vista

Improving performance is one of Microsoft's design goals with Windows 7, and many early reviewers (including ours) have said that the new OS seems peppier than Vista. But tests of the Windows 7 Release Candidate in our PC World Test Center found that while Windows 7 was slightly faster on our WorldBench 6 suite, the differences may be barely noticeable to users.

Movies: Film Review: Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" has been subjected to many indignities, from high school pageants to tired Hollywood remakes. But "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" makes you wish you do believe in ghosts so the old man can come back and sue somebody over the lamest and easily the worst revisionist take on his classic story.

Masti: Movie review: 'The Soloist'

For all its sensitivity to the horrors of mental illness, "The Soloist" ends up as a fairly canned piece of work. In grand style, it tells the story of a schizophrenic musician and of the newspaperman who writes about him, but what emerges is a tale of triumph but without triumph, of rescue but without rescue, and of friendship but without friendship.

Masti: Searching for the Ideal Chocolate

I actually wrote about this back in November. But then, in the way that these things can sometimes slide, what we thought was a "done deal" turned out to be a bit...underdone. We were ready, but the chocolate bar wasn't. It's actually a good story in terms of what it takes to hit the quality levels we're looking for in the artisan food world.

Movies: Film Review: Crank: High Voltage

The most dubiously premised attempt at a movie franchise since "Speed 2" hit screens Friday in the form of "Crank: High Voltage," with British action star Jason Statham repeating his role as Chev Chelios, the guy who just can't get a break.

Movies: Review: 17 Again

Zac Efron, looking cool, is movie enough for the makers of "17 Again," a halfhearted fantasy that stars Efron in a role cryogenically frozen around the time of C. Thomas Howell's '80s heyday. He plays a high school basketball star who has everything going for him.
