LetsDiscuss: One-third of world's poor in India: Survey

oh my god!!!!!!! another issue being neglected by Indians.... 1/3 of the poor population of the world lives in India and a staggering 456 million people or about 42% of the INDIAN population is living below the new international poverty line of $1.25 per day.... what worse can happen for our country where few Indians are in the richest of the world category and so many are below the poverty line....... to add to it the report also suggests that the progress of the poor has been slowed down... is our media ever gonna highlight this fact or this report would be considered as a piece of crap and thrown away.....

I can guarantee that 80% of these so called Poor people are Poor because they CHOOSE TO LIVE A POOR LIFE, otherwise in today's India there are plenty of oppurtunities to come forward in life and have much better life!

(Dont believe me?? Ask the goons who are followers of Raj Thackrey or Mamta Banerji or "Netas" of Kerala who want to call Bandh because Saddam was hanged, or Benezir was killed or any Tom Dick or Harry died!!)

Remaining 20% yes, they are unfortunately at the bottom pit and we need to do something about them!

I second the comment of wdm2a and another interesting fact to note is that the poverty is declining whatever the actual amount be. India being one of the most densely populated country will off course be having larger amount of poor people compared to other nations. A proper comparison could only done with China who are having same population stand as India.

hey wdm and hemu i also know that majority of ppl are not putting efforts at all to improve their conditions.... they are just interested in increasing chaos by joining any political institution....

but then it still counts as a part of our country..... so i feel that something if possible should be done for them.... but for the remaining poor class of ppl i dont think enough is being done....

i just wanna ask one question to all of u here that why dont our own businessmen and millionaires help these economically backward classes???????

    does anyone has the answer????
