Goa - where the entire society believes in a happy and peaceful existence - where money played a lesser in life - where contentment is the rule rather than an exception.

    Thanks awmyth for posting this very interesting article. It brought back one of the unanswerable questions in my mind. What should one strive for - peaceful existence or material wealth. If you do not pursue wealth when everybody else around you is, soon you will find you are not able to afford some of the basic necessities in life. If you keep pursuing wealth madly in the rat race, you forget what life really is about, to be at peace with yourself and your surroundings. I guess the answer is to balance out the two with some emphasis on money and being careful to avoid the pitfall of greed over peace. btw some people also allege goans are lazy.

      I think those who can find that balance are really the happy ones. It is so true that if it is one person alone, he/she will find it difficult to survive. it has to be the norm, the culture.

      I agree, to many who do not understand this way of thinking and living will consider it as being lazy.

      Tilak tells us just that. Tilak (the author) is a friend of mine. He was posted in Goa for three years as a Naval Commander. I know how much he loves to explore. He has written a book on Goa which has been accepted by the state directorate of education as a reference on Goa and is now in the library of every school and college.

    Thanks everyone, I had to almost force Tilak to start blogging, I have seen his books and photos - what he has in his collection is amazing. I am glad I has started - for it something we can all share.

    hey awmyth that will be a great favor if u can ask him to join rambhai, as we can have a direct interaction with the great guy......

    as far as the post is concerned i think it is beautifully described, that how one can take big risks in life and at the end of the day can still be satisfied with what he has, that according to me is the real essence of being human.....

    and as far as this rat race culture is goin on, i think since the time of our birth we are so used to this type of environment that we just cant avoid it, to add to it the added pressure from society and family can make our life hell.... so in the fast city life i think it is too difficult to do such stuff....
