This certainly sounds like a smuggled phone. Hope you did not pay the market price for it. I doubt if Nokia centre would fix this, you would probably need to go to some grey market area - my guess would be that Nehru Place should be an ideal place to start.

@Joey..Brother first of all it's not a smuggled phn.My cousin has gifted it to me n he is residing in California n bill copy is wth him.N i cnt wait to recieve d bill copy n den get it unlocked.Secondly,Gaffar Mkt. wud be a better opiton dan Nehru Place.I hv already fixed d deal to get it unlocked...I dint relaised diz wud be an issue otherwise i wud hv asked my cousin to send me a bill copy also...But ne ways thz for ur concern :)

Yup, Gaffar market would be a good idea. The problem with getting phone from US is that most phones there are sold through the operator and are thus operator tied. No cell phone provider in India would take the pain of unlocking them, it does not matter whether you have the bill or not, so the only option is grey market. The other option would be to ask the US operator (T-mobile here) to give an unlock code, which your cousin might be able to get for you. US operators are typically willing to give the unlock code after a couple of months of phone purchase.
