There were two investigations launched by the police. This investigation has identified the 4,000 victims of the scandal. This scandal was brought to a new level after it was revealed that victims included a 13-year old girl who was murdered later as well as terror victims and British troops killed in Afghanistan. Many organizations decided to suspend their ties with the newspaper after the scandal. It seems like the newspaper brand has been damaged by the scandal so much that it made more sense for Murdoch to close it.
