Miscellaneous: The Smiliing Old Man

He was just another ‘Saha’ I thought; ‘Saha’s in Bengal are business community, by caste they are business men. As Bengalis are infamous for their business acumen, ‘Saha’s are exceptional. Not only in business, many of their innovative sons have contributed towards every aspect of humanity, charity and of course science. But in my new branch, when I met this elderly Saha who always wore a smiling face; I felt him hard to ignore. Later I came to know that his is wholesale clothing business in the business district at Kolkata, Burrabazar. At an early age he came to this city with his father leaving their family business at now Bangladesh. It was his father who started as small time trader in the city. He joined his father sooner he past his adolescent and finally the father and son duo established a wholesale shop in the famous business place in Kolkata. After his father’s expired, he carried on his business efficiently and when I met him, it was his son who is taking care of trade. The jolly man amongst aged people like him we rarely come across; so he was liked by everybody at the branch. Every day at about our lunch hour he used to usher at the branch with a shabby bag.
