What is Rambhai.com all about?
Rambhai.com is an India-centric link/news sharing website that is based on the principles of:
Free Expression
User Moderation
On rambhai, you can share/read stories which you think are of interest to Desis (this is a term used to refer to people who have some form of association with the Indian sub-continent).
We encourage users to be as fair as possible while passing a judgement by either voting or commenting. Basically behave unto others as you would have them behave unto you.
How do I contact the Rambhai team?
Send us an email at rambhai@rambhai.com
What kind of links can I expect?
The links/discussion will generally be on topics relevant to Indians/Desis. We expect the discussion topics to range from entertainment, sports, tech, politics etc. Overall following the free expression, user-moderation philosophy, we can't say in which direction the website will evolve. We do not want to control the direction.
What is your concept of free-expression in the Indian context?
Free expression is about feeling the freedom to post a story or a comment, lack of fear, desire to express and be recognized by a close-knit community of Desis.
Who is Rambhai?
Well. Rambhai is your neighborhood chaiwalla. It could be the guy serving in your college, just outside your workplace, anywhere you take a break, have a chai/coffee/smoke and discuss anything under the sun. We aspire to be that place on the net. Specifically, the name is inspired by Rambhai, the chaiwalla outside IIM Ahmedabad, who predates most people on the campus and is a very liked and talked about personality including in the classroom case-discussions of IIM Ahmedabad. IIMA guys-n-gals hang out there (many more options of hanging out have since come up like the CT etc) and chat about wide-ranging topics of interest.
Rambhai in media
Rambhai appeared on front page of TOI Ahemdabad in January 24,2008. Here is a link to the story . An excerpt from the TOI story:-
For the last 25 years, he has supplied steaming cups of chai at his kitli, offering food for thought and creating a space for debate and discussion for students of IIM-A.
Now, this chaiwala is raising a storm in a tea cup in cyberspace, with a website created in his name that has a popular discussion board which touches on almost everything — from global warming to “hot” Carla Bruni.
“Students come to my kitli and discuss a wide range of topics. I join in and like to have open discussions and exchange of ideas,” says Rambhai Kori, who came to the city from Uttar Pradesh when he was three.
Not surprising then, that the site named after him is a discussion board for topics and links for stories ranging from ‘Bloodbath on Dalal Street’ to ‘India’s launching of the Israeli satellite’ and ‘10 reasons why you should date a fat girl’. Another discussion is on Bin Laden’s son advising his father to change his ways, while another talks on ‘Sicko grabs Koena’s stomach’.
Rambhai chaiwalla recently appeared in TOI Ahmedabad edition, here is link to that story
Can I post anything here?
The freedom is broad but has limits due to law of the land. The user-moderated free-expression media as a concept is new to even the internet, atleast in the Indian context. So remember that we are the pioneers and it up to us to make this initiative a success. To this end, we will have to ensure that we adhere to some guidelines:
Reduce obscenities as much as possible.
Tone down personal attacks
Adhere to laws of the land i.e. the Indian Law if you are in India or the law of the country you are in.
We do not feel the above are too stringent and so reserve the right to remove content we feel is going against the law etc. Thus within these limits we will try as much as possible to keep the philosophy of free expression intact.
Visit Rambhai.com regularly. Post links of interest to Desis. Vote/Comment on the ones you like. Enjoy... Lets make history!

Please include Bookmarklet for your site. Its really pain for frequently article senders.
Thank you
Rambhai, I see you have only one ad on your site. is it because it is very expensive? I was wondering what it would cost to put a small ad for my cricket website?
@awmyth We have mailed you the required information on your registered email id. Cheers! :-)
Thanks Rambhai, I have replied to you by email.
Hey Rambhai..New luk of "Queue" page is lukng gud.
hi rambhai , first i would like to congratulate u on this wonderful site. I have been trying to use pligg for sometime now, but could not come up with something nice like this , there were security reasons which made me not use pligg, also i encountered to many spams and Regualar lock ups,but u seem to have pretty well managed , it would be nice of u if u could help me with the scrip, or u can just email it to me. after all its under 1mb file i guess.
Keep Up the Good Work.
Hoping to Hear A postive response from you !
@aki.joseph thanks for your comments about the site aki. Basically we started with Pligg but now we have a Rambhai version of Pligg :-) We have improvised a lot over Pligg to get Rambhai into the shape it is now. I hope you understand it will not be possible to share the code with you to maintain our uniqueness. Thanks for sharing your insights and we are sorry for not being able to share the code.
@aki.joseph I would recommend that you checkout the latest version of pligg (http://www.pligg.com). While rambhai has done some very good customizations, I feel that their version is missing out on some useful features which are available in the more recent versions. Moreover, a customized version would probably be much harder to maintain than the version which is being actively supported by the pligg community.
@rambhai
Thanks guys , for your reply,
I have started a site with a new version, here is my link, www.famemyblog.com , basically the idea is as simple as yours, lets catch up sometime and work together. I would love to see u upgrade your template to a new cool look.
@zaphod
thnks for the update . I have put the latest version on my site www.famemyblog.com . Some pretty useful mods outthere. But very limited templates ,so good templates are Too costly.
