Miscellaneous: Eve Teasing in India
" I am a white American female working in Bangladesh. The public groping here is shameless and beyond disgusting. As much as I want to fight back, I find that every day I impose more and more restrictions on myself to maintain my safety and sanity. Recently I was coming back to Dhaka from Mymansingh on a public bus. The young man sitting across the isle from me began to very openly masturbate while staring completely unashamed at me. When I shouted at him (in English since I do not speak Bangla) it was the women around me who shouted back, apparently in his defense. I was wearing a salwar, so I don't think I was being faulted for immodesty. Regardless, I was made to feel ashamed for his vulgar and degrading actions. Barbara - why did you assume it was just the guys who voted for you ;) I think ur really pi$$d off with indian men. And yes we can be a handful, literally and figuratively. I myself had felt that we indian men have lost out to our hormones. I wish I could do something about it apart from being a gentleman myself. You know what sometimes an innocent hand has also been treated to be that of an eve teaser :-). I really don't have a solution for thsi problem, apart from emphasis on moral values at school and strict laws.
Hello Garfield79, Thanks for your comment. Actually that entry was a culmination of all my frustrations coming together and erupting. And frankly believe me thats the scene at what a indian girl has to go through everyday.
I absolutely agree and acknowledge that the indian women have to face a lot everyday during daily commute, but also I believe we dont have a real n quick answer to this problem. every case can not be reported, every woman can not be provided security.
hey barbara i agree with u that many women have to face this problems and i hate these f..... eve teasers like anything...
but sometimes as garfy said women use this as an advantage and they term innocent guys as eve teasers... this frustrate them more and they eventually start doing that or behaving like that....
thats not defending these assholes, i think the laws need to be stricter and some actions need to be taken as soon as the complaint is filed.....
still the perpetrators of 31 of dec have not been punished and are roaming freely.... what a big shame on us....
and our politicians are busy in making communal differences rather than punishing those bastards.....
Well communal difference are bound to be there man.And those are the same assholes who i have mentioned in my entry
talking about eve teasing and writing articles about it has been done a lot many times but no substantiate step has been taken against it.police negligence and victim reluctance have all been the main causes behind it.why is eve teasing not given as much importance as any other crimes?cant we do anything about it?
Dress code for women is not only on the lines of social distinction, but also on the lines of sexuality. immodest or provoking attaires is one of the causes of eve-teasing.
Preventive measures to eve-teasing
1. parents should educate their boys to respect girls
2. Girls should stop wearing provoking attaires like mini skirts, mini tops, tight jeans etc. Its better to wear traditional attaires.
3. Girls should not go out alone with out the companionship of a relative or parent or any friend.
4. Its not good wander on the streets unless there is work.
hey j2 i think except the first point i will disagree with rest of ur points....
i mean why the hell the gals cant live their own lives, i mean cant a grp of gals go for an outing, do always men need to accompany them at all places....
if they wan to wear mini skirts or tight jeans and they feel comfortable in it why cant they wear it and roam around....
do we ever ask males to not wear shirt pants and wear other stuff.....
no then why the hell the gals should sacrifice their liberty....
it is the responsibility of the ppl to live them their way and the law and order should check such inhuman activities.....

Well Liberty Comes in way of freedom. So Now Now Freedom is a liability of the process called as independence. Note i have just used Freedom not freedom for all genders. Now gender plays a big role here
