    Well Done!

One thing I wanted to say about the alexa stats. they are the easiest to manipulate, install alexa tool bar, open your site thousands of time per day & you will be in the top thousands.

If you are smart and still want to use the out-dated Alexa ranking, you can install a script to automatically open ur home-page, thousands of time and ur alexa rank will shoot up!

But seriously, anyone smart in this day & age will not be swayed by alexa rank. It is too easy to manipulate! My 2C!

    :-)

    Edit:- see this - http://www.google.co.in/search?q=how+to+manipulate+alexa+ranking&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a

go thru some of the posts and see what I mean! ;-)

      hi,

thanks for your comments, about the alexa ranks: alexa changed its algo some time back and now the importance on toolbar data is not given any more. the results are striking, check those sites that used to have good alexa rank, now they have poor alexa rank.

if you open your site with alexa toolbar it won't affect much, that's old information my friend that you have, [back in 2005-2007 it was easy to manipulate alexa that way] these days its not easy to manipulate alexa any more, since the toolbar data of alexa is not given much importance in the algo these days.

anyways, my alexa is not good at all, 200k alexa is just a start, see rambhai its 21k alexa and that's something to be proud of :)

and as i posted in my blog, alexa is just for fun, the real happiness is to cross the 150+ unique visitors mark and the next target is 300+ uniques :)

Feb 25th 2007 - date of that post!

i think i have made my point very clean now, in those days it was possible, not any more :)

check out doshdosh's ranking, its 184k which is not impressive anyway, times have changed, alexa can not be manipulate that easily now!!

      i hope its clear now!!

    from the link you posted:

    1) http://www.searchenginejournal.com/manipulating-alexa-traffic-rankings/3044/ March 3rd, 2006 [99k alexa]

    2) http://www.sensiblewords.com/2007/05/15/how-to-manipulate-alexa-rank/ May 15, 2007 [2179k alexa]

    3) http://www.doshdosh.com/20-quick-ways-to-increase-your-alexa-rank/ 184k alexa

    4) http://surfsieve.com/alexablog/2007/08/03/boost-your-websites-alexa-rank/ August 3, 2007 [585k alexa]

Note: this article is written by me and i used to own surfsieve, now its sold.

check the dates, those tips was good back then [2007 period], but now see their own sites, their own alexa is not good. alexa changed its algo, and those method that they say is not correct now.

so, @ bikaner2007, do you own any site?

  • Avatar | written by bikaner2007 442 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

That said, I haven't tried to manipulate alexa for ages and you might be right on the algo being changed recently.

Will have to try it again!

IF you can review the alexa ranking after the algo change and gather that it is easy to manipulate, that post will be an excellent "link bait" and you might hit the front page of digg!

Edit:- didn't see the above post!

  • Avatar | written by seoharmu 442 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

good that its all clear now :) i was one of those front runners in manipulating alexa, then one day i started hating myself because i was doing something that was un-ethical. Manipulating something is not good. so i left that and sold out surfsieve. then in 2008 somewhere alexa rank changed its algo and things are different now.

That's a good suggestion, i will start gathering information and in a few days time will be back with some alexa news :)

congo seo dear for ur latest achievements....

    • Avatar | written by seoharmu 441 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

      thanks denny :)

@bikaner, will do that in a few days time, and let you know,

  • Avatar | written by bikaner2007 441 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

SEO, do you know of any digg members here on Rambhai, we could ask them as well to take part!

  • Avatar | written by seoharmu 441 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

we have a few digg members, but you know digg rules, if digg thinks that we are forming a group to digg stories to front page, or they find a pattern of digging, then all account will be banned. So its a good idea not to ask rambhai members to digg.

Remember, rambhai is not huge, if 10 to 20 members of rambhai digg a story then the pattern will be easily checked by digg,

The best way is the write something quality, and hope it makes it to the front page,

  • Avatar | written by denny 440 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

wow!!!! i never knew abt this pattern... btw seo do u have a digg account.....and how did u came to know abt such policies of digg????

  • Avatar | written by seoharmu 440 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

this is a good policy denny, think about it, if some groups submitted and voted every story to the front page of rambhai, we would be angry too, right! most social bookmarking sites have this policy and digg being the biggest social site has to keep strong policy.

though at the end of the day, if the story is really good then it will hit the homepage for most social bookmarking site :) Am a SEO so i have to know these things, i don't have a digg account myself but some of my staff have a digg account.

  • Avatar | written by garfield79 440 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

But nothing in the world really works without a cartel / mafia / core group. Im sure digg has would have a core digger group or mini cartels. What say should we build a carte in Rambhai around the more active users?

  • Avatar | written by seoharmu 440 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

hi garfield, you are absolutely correct. digg and all other social bookmarking site have that group. but that is the group of contributing members, members that comments, votes, submits good stories, share openions and thoughts, have fun :) these people have strong account and are known as power users. No site will go against this kind of group, because these members are the reasons why a site becomes big. rambhai already have such a group [denny, garfield, j2, rizzy, rsk, shaan etc.] but the difference between we rambhai guys and digg is, that if any two power users of rambhai votes on a story it will reach the front page, but for digg, it will still require lots of other members vote because digg requires a lot of votes before a story reaches the front page, and it is justified by the sheer volume of digg's member base.

And yes, this core group of digg do manipulate by voting some stories that they want to, this is something that digg will never work on, because these power users are contributing to the site which is more important.

should build these power users group in rambhai too? as long as we submit/vote good stories, everything we do will be just ok i guess. Anything that help rambhai is good :)

    Hi guys,

I am a member of Digg, and the Terms of Service prohibits any intentional artificial inflating or altering of the 'digg count'.

I use Digg to promote my articles - and I will ocassionally get new readers. I never aim for front page. To get an article onto the frontpage, it needs Diggs by the hundreds. 20/30 diggs will simply get swamped.

My blogs are Dugg by many friends and family whenever they visit. To any clever software - there will be a pattern. I do not think anyone will ever be able to stop or condemn the practice - for they are exercising their freedom of thought and expression.

What Digg really has gone after are groups that will 'sell' diggs by the thousands - I used to receive emails offering to sell Diggs in 'packages' for varying amounts over different periods. It stopped after I published a screenshot of one such.

So if we have a group it will be so small it will hardly make much difference.

@awmyth - your posts are very good, am sure it will hit digg's front page someday. though i also do not target the front page, if it happens it will happen! besides i don't know if my hosting will be able to take 10k+ hits a day...

  • Avatar | written by garfield79 439 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

Yeah agree with awmyth, our scale is much smaller. And infact we are a group that kind of control the Rambhai home page. I did not know much about digg. What contributed to digg's success?

  • Avatar | written by seoharmu 439 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

    What contributed to digg's success?

ans) there are many factors, here are a few of them.

    1) digg is old: digg is one of the oldest social bookmarking site, on internet what comes first gets bigger faster :)

    2) Good members: i guess this holds true for rambhai's success too.

    3) Digg's algo: digg has a very good algo which keeps the not so good articles away from the front page.

    4) Not a big competitor for digg: digg dose not have a big competitor around. propeller/reditt is not so big, and yahoo buzz is a no-follow so not too many people bother with yahoo buzz.

Great insights seoharmu. Hope Rambhai becomes the indian Digg and we all hit the big times. Which sites do you think come close to the indian Digg apart from rambhai?

    • Avatar | written by seoharmu 439 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

there's plenty that comes close or some even are more popular than rambhai: indianpad, bharatboom, indiasphere, hotclicks, humsurfer... there are plenty, but they are rambhai's competitors so may be its not a good idea to talk about them :p

am sure someday rambhai will become the most popular social bookmarking site of india, because Rambhai has something that non of the other sites have, and that's community!

  • Avatar | written by denny 439 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

i agree with seo.... i think even bigadda is a competitor for rambhai..... but we the members of this community can make it the Indian digg.....

  • Avatar | written by garfield79 439 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

I agree, i definitely enjoy the intelligent discussions by the intelligent community at Rambhai. I have visited Indianpad and others but I have never been gripped by the discussion there. rambhai is the perfect chai/beedi ki dukaan on the internet to spark of discussion. Long live Rambhai and the community.

  • Avatar | written by awmyth 439 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

I agree with all of you - we are more than a community here - we are like friends, which is lacking elsewhere. I apologise for not being able to participate more often.

We do need to make Rambhai the digg equivalent of India. We already have our badge.

A quick question, how many of you are bloggers yourselves? One way of creating a community is through a web(blog)ring. I have a webring hosting site, its free. http://siterings.net

I created it to host my cricket webring. http://cricket.siterings.net

    - Rambhai would you start a webring from here? Exclusive to rambhai bloggers? All we will need is a homepage for the ring on this site.

  • Avatar | written by denny 438 days ago Rating: 0 | Rate comment: + -

hey awmyth ur suggestions sounds interesting but i am not getting exactly what are u trying to say, i mean what exactly is a web blog ring, and how it will be useful to us if we start it.....

but definitely we are frnds here, our relationships are quite informal and thats very necessary for the site to be developed and become huge.....
