After 18 years of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy keeping homosexuals from openly serving in the military (and decades upon decades of discrimination before this rule was established), gay men and women can now serve without secrecy. The repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" officially went into effect recently, a heavy weight lifted from the shoulders of some of our soldiers and a huge victory for the civil rights community at large.
