Maria Sharapova is a former world number one from Russia and has been playing on the WTA tour for almost eleven years now. Sharapova rose to fame in 2004 when, at age 17, she stunned two-time defending champion and top seed Serena Williams in the 2004 Wimbledon final for her first Grand Slam singles title. She marched into the top 10 of the WTA Rankings with this win. Since then she has made it to five Grand Slam finals winning three and losing two.
