I agree with you. It is too late for that.
The mistakes were made before 1947 - when the muslim population was led to believe that they would not survive in a secular India. That feeling and fear had 60 years to grow. It is not feasable.
Only if Mr Jinnah and party had given out the opposite message and kpt the two communities together as an 'United India' - we would have become a superpower long ago, instead we have spend god knows how many billions fighting each other.
Pakistan, or more specifically President Musharraf, played a double game after 9/11. If you read his speech to the nation Musharraf clearly says ( http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/pakistanpresident.htm ) he would be looking for ways to prevent damage and save Afghanistan and Taliban.
He couldn't do both.
He almost blackmailed US by saying he was the only person who could keep their nuclear arsnal safe. The suckers in America have finally woken up.

US committed suicide when they invaded Iraq. It was GW Bush and his cronies who felt compelled to go in to try save the petrodollar hegemony - thinking they could trust Musharraf to 'fight' bin-Laden. Like they had done against the Soviets.
