Dear Rambhaiyaas,

This post is to thank all members of our vibrant rambhai community because of whom this virtual chai stall has come a long way since its humble inception more than two years ago.

Nevertheless, there a lot of distance is yet to be covered. Rambhai wants all its members know that on his part, he will be slowly and steadily making efforts to make rambhai.com a comfortable place for its members to keep stopping by for chai time news and discussions.

As a small step in that direction, we want to do some house housekeeping so that we improve the overall quality by reducing spam on rambhai.com, especially on the queue pages. We are making the following changes and will love to know your thoughts on the same:

1. Default view for stories in the queue will show them sorted in descending order of votes (you might have already seen this over the past few weeks) This means that karma becomes more important, as stories posted by users with high karma will show up first)

2. Given increased dependence on karma above, we are moving to a new and improved karma system which will penalize bad behaviour (might even result in negative karma and thus user's stories not showing up in the queue upon submission). The karma will now also give more weightage to recent activity to account for efforts of people who have done good in the recent past. You will start seeing these changes on rambhai.com over the next few days.

3. To stop people from using round about ways to flood the queue we have plugged-in some of the holes (like sql-injection) in our base platform but we need support from our user community as well. Do visit the queue whenever you are around to vote for stories as well as to highlight spam - simply click on the text 'bakwaas' next to the story tags Ofcourse, clicking on 'bakwaas' counts as good behaviour only if done judiciously and in the right spirit.

Rambhai will keep you posted on more initiatives towards improving this virtual chai stall. In the mean time, do let us know of your thoughts; we might not be able to take up all your suggestions, but will certainly keep them in mind when deciding next steps.

hello,

Yep the re-captcha thing is a good spam buster, however its also an additional step in submission that most people hate. You can do like, when people submit more than one story per hour or per day, give him re-captcha...

The karma system looks good, i already saw the queue is now showing stories sorted by karma. That's a very good step.

hey this re-captcha is a bit different, sometimes i get it and sometimes i don't.... i don't know why...

the rest things done are very well and it also makes easy to recommend the genuine and good stories from the hopeless spams.....

By get it if you mean you are not able to solve recaptcha, you can always ask for another question by clicking on the circular arrows in recaptcha panel.

so far, since this thing has been implemented, i faced the re-captcha while submission everytime...

Rambhai,

The level of spam is only due the fact that most of us DO NOT use the bakwaas button.

i have regularly voted bakwaas for most of the spam and i urge all of us to do that on a regular basis.

I am not sure how the bakwaas feature works?

I have voted bakwaas for many stories and they still reach the home page.

Can you enlighten us as to how many bakwaas votes are needeed to remove the story etc and how it works?

@bikaner, thanks for being a responsible Rambhaiyya. Actually its all in your karma. If you vote for a story the number of votes received by the story is directly related to your karma. Similarly your bakwaas vote would bury the story if your karma is higher than the total points received by the story. And karmais going to be more and more important in the coming days.

@kainth56, thanks for the query, we are looking into your case. For some reason, Rambhai's spam control module is flagging the stories you are posting as spam. Stories get flagged as spam if their content has copyright, vulgarity issues or if they are 3rd party SEO spam. However, there might be some false positives as well. We are looking into this and will get back to you.

@ Kainth56, i think no one is marking your stories as Bakwas. Since your KARMA is negative, when you are submitting stories its showing 0 votes. . . Thats what i think, but may be the season is something else. . . . BEST OF LUCK

Your blog is so full of adsense - that I don't even feel like scrolling down to read the content.

if the content is half decent, I will definately vote for it.

The half decent ones have already been voted for by members.

Make a good post, it will come on the homepage for whatever it is worth.

also, if you interact more, i.e vote, comment etc - the other users will notice your stories as well.

Thanks For Both bikaner & denny I Really Thankful To Both of Your. This is not main problem I am Asking Here my Problem is when ever i post a story it automatically marked as backwass now tell me no body read it than how it goes into trash & the other thing about ads I reduced them My one blog http://silentslice.blogspot.com/ is still have no ads. Please Rambhai Check Out My Problem. Some Of My Stories Are not Seen by People Cause they Marked as Backwass AS I Added them Here.

@Kainth - Your stories are being marked spam by our spam control module, and I have to admit our spam control module seems to be working perfectly fine. We will not be able to help you in this regard. Please try to post original stuff, not aimed at getting junk search traffic to your blog. I hope you understand what we are trying to say here.

@ RAMBHAI, I am also facing problems in submitting posts since last 2 months. Most of the time when i am submitting a post, its showing that ' YOU ARE A BOT. Type the Captcha again correctly '. . . Doing that again and again but same result. . . Sometimes a white page is coming with a line which states ' SPAM PROTECTION TEST PASSED SUCCESSFULLY '. . .thats all

this is why, my frequency of submission is nearly zero since last two months. . . . . Please check this out Rambhai. . . Hope that you will solve this problem soon. . . Thanks

@ Bikaner, i tried once by deleting my cookies but still same. . . And as i am using different computers to browse and surf the internet. So i dont think that this problem is because of cookies. . Well i will try to do by clearing my cache and history, too. . . Lets see,gonna work that or not?

Thanks for the concern RAMBHAI.... But i am using different browsers and operating systems at different time. But connection is always broadband.rnrnI think its working a bit better now. I just submitted one post. But when i tried to submit another post, it started showing me the same message...

@shaan, we have rectified a few things at our end. Would be great if you let us know if you still face the same error. Also would help to know what kind of internet connection you are using, Dial up, broadband etc. Which browser and operating system as well.
