from whatever half knowledge i have kumpal. My answer is the tree mentioned here is the tree of our actions. When we do good deeds the leaves go upwards, when we do bad one the grow downwards. True state of the should be at peace with the god and the tree should be cut, meaning you should not be receiving any fruits of your actions. You should be acting on the path of Dharma giving the fruits of your action to the lord. Now this one is a toughie, what it means is do what you do but do it with God awareness without getting very passionate or involved with the action.
