Why is there no talk about Indian Kaffirs like Aryabhatta, Charaka & Sushruta.. ? Btw, Kaafirs was a muslim label for all people who are not muslim. This article talks as if it is talking about atheists. Something doesn't sit right. And wasn't it Ferdinand Magellan who went round the earth and not Sir Francis Drake? And that was even before Drake was born.. (as per the article, 1540, while Magellan's ships circumnavigated the world in 1525)
About Karl Marx's ideologies, we all know that they are dieing a slow and painful death.
However, the thrust of the article is correct and most of the points would hold good.
The article generalizes (probably incorrectly) the concept of contrarian as 'kaafir'. The word 'kaafir' literally has a very relgious (Islamic) context and is actually in no way related to the contrarian concept, except in the sense of not following Islam.
There was a article in this context posted by a veteran rambhai user awmyth. I have little personal research to back it up, but the article looks fairly well researched and I will quote the content from it in regard to the term 'kaafir' (or kufir in this article):
'The language of the Koran separates the world into Muslims and kufir (infidels, unbelievers). It is quite clear about the fate of infidels, they will burn for eternity in Hell.
…then guard yourself against the Fire whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the unbelievers. 2:23 '

Kumpal,
Though I am not the author of this article, I would try to conjecture what the author might have thought..
Magellan though was the first person to lead of first successful circumnavigation of the earth, he didnot live to complete the journey. He was killed during the Battle of Mactan in the Philippines), Magellan had earlier traveled eastward to the Spice Islands, so he became one of the first individuals to cross all of the meridians of the Globe.
Drake lived on the successfully complete the circumnavigation of the earth. That is perhaps why the author chose to mention Drake. Just a conjecture and my two cents.

hey the word Kafirs in actuality means completely different, but in this case it is used as someone who is gone against the general beliefs and has been appreciated....
i mean ya Kafirs have a genuine right to exist in this society.....
but now a days there are many ppl who want to dominate themselves on the names of these no believers and kaafirs and thats why ppl have become more intolerant...
i personally feel that any individual idea if its different than normal should be accepted if its not enforced on you.....
