Obama's victory on November 04, 2008, has fired the imagination of a lot of Indians. Many believe that India too needs an Obama to shake things up like they never have been, and are scouring the political landscape to see if they can locate a desi version.
There are clearly no 'Obamas' in India. The one who comes nearest to him is perhaps Mayawati, a dalit who has powered her way to be a little more than 'a breath away' from becoming India's Prime Minister. Then there is the much hated and admired Narendra Modi...

hey i think both of them are sick and cant even be compared to Obama...
though both of them want to become the PM of India i dont th9ink any one of them deserves to become one....
they both have done enough great acts to not be the leader of our country....

hey bill.... currently i just cant find any names who can do wonders for our country....
initially i used to support Raj Thackeray but after his cheap divisive politics i hate him.....
i suppose Uddhav Thackeray has some qualities for becoming a good leader but then again not much can be said as he too is the son of legendary problem maker Bal Thackeray.....

You really need to wait and see whether Obama can deliver what he has promised.

As soon as Obama was elected, articles like these were seen in all new media. This is a good example that we always look at White people and not with in ourselves.
Don't you think Obama's of India have already contributed...
Dr. Ambedkar who rose up among our Federal System has done it already. Also think of Abdul Kalam, who comes from humble background rose with his will for Scientific knowledge.

It would be a shame to compare the likes of Mayawati and Narendra Modi to a revolutionist like Obama. Mayawati and Narendra Modi are mere political hypocrites. Nothing more than that.

Well, since I'm not a part of the political arena, I can only say what's apparent and as of now, I guess none of the Indian politicians can be labeled as 'not being hypocrite'.

Even Uddhav Thackeray seems to be following the same tactics that his more-famed relatives have been doing i.e divide and rule. So your guess is good as mine.

Obama is untested too so I would not look that way for inspiration but yes if it came to choosing between(and I hope it doesn't)Maya behen and Modi bhai then I would choose Modi for his administrative record and Maya for her abilty to get diverse groups together but alas both have blemished records.....so actually will wait for a third option.
