LetsDiscuss: How can a police work efficiently, if its officers are hailed as “Encounter Specialists?” (Mumbai)

One of the unfortunate aspects of the Mumbai terror attacks was that it costed the nation; officers, who had immense experience of the Indian crime scene. But even after having such a vast experience; when the terror striked the India’s economic capital; they were all caught unawares.

    One thing I found from Shivasankar's article is that our police is having no real power. Three Police Inspector killed in the attack were Encounter specialist but I have doubt how that can be. They have killed around 90 Odd Criminals and they got killed by two terrorist. I doubt now whether they have killed really any terrorist before or all encounters were fake as we get heard news on this too.

    hey cricketgod i think u are insulting our police force.... actually the encounters mostly carried out are of petty criminals who have very limited weapons and definitely their weapons are not as advanced as the terrorists......

    so when they were faced with the bullets of the terrorists they didnt knew much how to react and as a result they lost their lives.........

    as far as the point of the writer is concerned i think the encounter specialists are made to scare the criminals and not the common people.......

    in reality the encounter specialists are the officers who deal with criminals strictly and use their weapons more.........

    Hy denny,

    You must be knowing that there were some cases of fake encounters and so. My point is that in real our police force is not fully functional against terrorism and this is a serious threat. I want to say that this police officers must be given strict training and weapons so that this encounter specialist can be converted to Anti Terrorist Specialist.

    yeh criky........ they are indeed not given the hard training... you see majority of police officers would be over weight with a bulging stomach...... due to this there is lack of fitness and lack of agility, to add to it there are not enough technologically advanced weapons to accompany them....... as a result of this the Police force was not able to tackle the attack by themselves and thats why the Commandos had to be called........

    the best thing now is to give a rigorous training to the Policemen and increase their fitness levels......

    then provide them with better equipments.........
