LetsDiscuss: Faith questioned- Why do we believe in God?

Why do we keep believing even after unfortunate events to which no logic, whatsoever, can be attested? When things seem unfair and untimely, when the going insists on getting tougher from tough, why do we still pray? Let's discuss what it is that keeps the faith alive...

its a very good topic gauri.... i also always thought the same when my life was hell..... but now when i look back i think how immature was i to think that way....

we are humans gauri and it happens this way only when we are screwed by ever side we need someone to rage our frustrations on and so we start questioning the very existence of god......

    Kind Attn: Gauri

    -----------------

Gauri, you have raised a very imperative question that mankind needs to answer no matter which side of the aisle one stands.

However the question is best answered with reason and logic when we acknowledge the presence and might of God in His omnipotence.

Let me try to express, what I want to convey in min. possible words.

In a nutshell the question that you have raised is trying to reason the presence of evil in the World, which every worldview tries to deal with.

When we see from 'God's point of view' (ie acknowledge the existence of God) we see reason and logic in the sense that God has created us (humans) in "His own image" in the sense that we have the "Free Will" and "Reasoning" capacity that no other creature has got.

Secondly we decide any situation based on the principle of "Morality" which cannot be justified or reasoned on anything but God.

Hope that I have expressed myself to be clear.

    God Bless!

Thank you both for commenting in earnest. I agree with Denny that God is the ultimate punching bag of sorts.

WD, you have caught the essence of those few lines I wrote and articulated in a way I was unable to. Precisely- what is the reason for evil, misery and unjustified circumstances in the face of a cumulative, strong and positive belief in God?

There's this concept of bounded rationality that people reason to counter believers and their faith and to further their atheist logic. While I am in no way an atheist, and my belief in a higher power we call God however strong, is quite abstract all the same. So in this sense, when my faith shakes, it is often just as easy to restore my faith in Good, thereby in God by the means of some small, tiny good things I accidentally come across.

Let me put my question more directly-- here I am talking about death. How can believers justify untimely deaths? If all must be attributed to Him, then so must an unfortunate death be. What are the reasons that still make you believe after inexplicable turns of events take away from you your loved ones without a moment's notice?
