I agree that the government will do little, as things stand now. India may be nuclear power, but I do not see any Indian leader press that button should China capture Arunachal, for example, given the asymmetry that exists presently.

If so, then it all the more reason that India must prepare itself by bolstering its military capabilities. A loss will be humiliating for India, a non-victory for China.

"usa today which also considers India as soft target for china" this is exactly where it gets both disappointing and insulting... yes India do not have military capability to fight china in a non-neuclear war, yes, but quoting a neuclear capable country [i.e. not just atom bomb but hydrogen stuff as well], as a "SOFT Target"??!! SOFT TARGET!!!
if India blasts an atom bomb, the usa today's office will burn in the nuclear radiations as well!!!
in all honestly, another india vs. china war is not going to happen, and lets get the facts right, india is a democratic country and will never have a military budget as big as china... however the only problem is that we have corrupt politicians who are corrupt enough to eat bribes out of defense budgets... that's where all the problem lies, look at those MIG planes that India is buying, all are falling from the clear sky...

@seo russia and china had war in late 1960s..both were nuclear powers by then..communist dont have to stand for elections that they worry about things which a democracy does...why usa today called india a soft target?..well because among all countries which come in china's might attack list India is one with which it can have false reasons like arunachal pradesh. But it is not going to be repeat of 1962 (if at all war happens)..china too would have lot of price to pay.. primary reason written by that author was more social and political than anything else.
but bottom line is we have to be prepared and u rightly said corrupted politicians are not helping us much too..if china does not attack or go for war , its perfect but if its does we cannot reason with them. can we?..
