Cricket: where the mind is without fear - the head is held high

Because of you we, as a team, are no longer a soft option - at home or on tour. Your team mates and players from the world over have acknowledged what you have done for us. For Team India. You did it your way. You do not have to prove yourself to anyone anymore.

Farewell Dada although your farewell was tainted by Gavaskar's remarks about your fielding, still it was grand. One of the best cricketers India has ever seen, may bengal produce lots of sons like you. Your batting had the fire and desire to win, you would not have been disgraced in your later years if your fielding was half as good as your batting.

his fielding could have been a lot better if he was not from bengal! dravid, sachin and others field the same, leaving out a few good youngsters, everyone in the team fields the same. Its just that people become racist and says his fielding is the worst dosenot make him the worst fielder.

Saurav is a good fielder, not the best... but still good. Had he been from any other state people would have not highlighted his fielding, sad really!

Dada, bye bye, but you will remain in our hearts as the best Cricketer India has ever produced.

i have the highest regard for ganguly as a cricketer, but his fielding is at par with the other legend - kumbleonly. Kumble dives after the ball is past him. Dravidand tendulkarare much better fielders, there fielding has declined, however not as bad as dada. I think dada's contacts have something to do with this wekk. maybe he is not able to sight the ball as well as he used to.

whatever people would like to say i just want to salute this guy for the guts he has shown over the years.....

and as far as his fielding was concerned i dont think anyone was best in all forms of the game.....

who remembers Jonty Rhodes for his batting......

@garfield79, i don't agree with you, sachin is not a good fielder and dravid being in the slip saves him from the running...

kumble, laxman, sachin, dada, dravid... all are the same in the field, but saurav is un-necessarily targeted every time. After the 07 comeback, saurav's fielding has greatly improved.

i feel all the seniors possess the same fielding ability even including the pacers like Zaheer, Ishant and some others...

India is a country where we can hardly see any outstanding fielders, some of them who can be classified in that category are Yuvi, Kaif and to some extent Raina.....

      the rest are just ordinary....

so all the critics of Dada need to shut up....

    Thanks everyone for your comments.

Regarding his fielding - he was no better or any worse than others - say Dravid / Laxman / Kumble. His critics focusses on the fielding as there are no stats to prove or disprove.

There was another myth about him getting his partners run out till someone on TV (I forget who) dug up the stats and it turned out to be Dravid - at that time. It was never mentioned again.

So typical of Sunny Gavaskar to talk about the wrong thing at the wrong time...don't think he has managed to digest the fact that Saurav was a far superior captain than him and Sachin...We should not even get into defending dada...Sunny Gavaskar for once can go to hell

Agree with you that Gavaskar cannot acknowledge Saurav's talent - jealous streak - he dragged himself to play and score tons slowly.

good fielders like yuvraj etc are only good for the 30 yards circle, the rest of the fielders in the fence don't even need to be quick, rather than that they should have strong arms which young players don't have.

When a young player enters the team, it takes him months to get into the fitness program and get fit like the seniors are. So, just taking in young players dosenot improve the fitness. this is not the same with the english/australlian players, they have fit players in their club teams, because they are trained that way. unfortunately our young players are not trained that way. Remember when yuvraj came into the team he was not so fit. So SAURAV GANGULY sent yuvraj, kaif, and a few other to sauth africa for fitness training for a few months, and then they become so fit.

Ever seen a ball go to saurav ganguly, the Racist commentators start saying that now the ball goes to saurav so the batsmen will take 2 runs easily, i have seen sachin stand at the same place and give away 2 runs.... then the same commentators says, "WOW what a great player, gives 100% on the field, what a champion" Yes sachin is a champion, and on the same point these commentators are Racist, biased and Sycophant

i agree with seo.... the centuries made by Sachin Tendulkar against not very strong oppositions were looked to be great and three consecutive centuries by Sourav in the world cup 2003 were viewed as down trodden as they were made against weak oppositions like Kenya and Bangladesh.....
