Cricket: so shall you reap… ||| The "silly points"

Vijay Mallya has walked into this with his eyes wide open. Not the shrewed businessman, I only see a fool parting easily with his millions. $ 111.6 m for the franchise - $1.035 m for Rahul Dravid that is serious money. It is not the money, it is the ignominy of his stupidity that will be hurting him more today. The "silly points" |||. cricket without boundaries

I think this article criticizes rahul dravid and nothing else. I Agree that he and his team failed to deliver but that doesnt reduces his greatness as a player. I think vijay mallya should have been involved in the selection process earlier rather than blaming rahul in the later stages.

consider it guys if the Banglore team would have won a few more games than they currently did this entire blame would not have come on Dravid. it is rightly said losers always have excuses......

      Thanks Denny for your comment.

The fact is Dravid's chosen team did not win 'those few more games' to justify their selection. IPL is a form of cricket where excuses such as this, will no longer work. Here everyone is being paid to win all.

Just by looking at the team selection the Bangalore performance was perdictable. It did not come as a surprise to many - it was called a 'test team' in 20/20 shirts even before the tournament got way. Dravid has been in top level cricket for 12 years, and had held our Team captaincy, he has no excuses for getting it wrong.

Yes, it is a criticism of Dravid as 1. a player of the shortform cricket and 2. as a cricketer. Cricket is about honesty. If a player is not capable of delivering the requirements, he/she should put up his hand and admit it. He did not have to go with the 'icon player' status. He takes home $>1 million for it. VVS gave it up for the sake of his team.

The point I have made is IPL franchisee, being a 'business' will have a different set of rules for non performers, than the national board. Just being the 'name' will not be enough. If one is prepared to accepts his 'fees' he has to deliver. Cricketers have so long enjoyed a professional status of earning the money regardless of outcome. IPL is total professionalism in sport - in the most cruel form.

Like your statement I can say, consider if Bangalore had Greg Chappell as the coach, he would even now be singing Dravid's praises; Mr Mallya because it is his own millions at stake did not. What Dravid could successfully hide as our ODI captain got exposed in the IPL.

Yes, we are now criticising Mallya for not being involved earlier. That only confirms that he trusted Dravid's team selection and was prepared to go with his captain's judgement. Dravid had a free hand to choose his team, he cannot now blame Mallya for interfering.
