in the Indian ODI team, Mr Rahul Dravid. Rahul Dravid is not an ODI batsman. It is time he accepted the reality of his position.

    just2impressU,

    I stand by what I wrote in my article. Rahul Dravid may be a "reliable run accumulator", but he can only do at his own slow pace, that is detrimental to an ODI team.

    Modern day ODIs are won by hard hitting batsmen like Gilchrists, Haydens, Bouchers, Afridis, Jayasuriyas.....Not by slow "reliable" batsmen like Dravid, I bet opposition bowlers just loves to keep him on strike, knowing it will drop the runrate.

    In an era when comfort zones have been abolished, Dravid had been given a comfort zone of two years with the captaincy. Kiran More, Chappell and Dravid had their desired "young team" and spectacularly failed.

    We have two wicketkeeping batsmen in the team, both of whom are better run getters and better wicketkeepers. Dravid cannot justify his position based on just one attribute that too 'slow' batting, even if he was to don the gloves again.

    As long as he is an automatic choice in the team, we will play 7 batsmen and weaken our bowling; we will only be winning against teams like Bermuda. Its time we realised cricket is won and lost on the field and not by statistical numbers.

    i cumpltly agree wth u guys, dravid is a very slow player. but cud u gimme ne gud alternative for team india?? lets hv a scenario dravid is out of the team...all ryt then den who d hell wll score buddy ??? and for ur correction in the world cup match wth sri lanka...ball wz gone to fine leg area...dravid wz lukng at the ball back towards the yuvraj...n he wz foolishly running towards the striker end...

    n ya one more point..in the recently concluded test match against bangladesh dravid's strike rate waz 75+...whereas other century makers (jaffer,karthik,tendulkar) were all below 50...all ryt tell me diz where does saurav ganguly fits in the team???

    all in all there is no end for this debate...wt v all wnt is gud strng indian team...be it wth dravid or wthout dravid :))

    regarding the yuvi's run out in world cup it wasnt dravid's call.

      @just2impressu,

      Yes, I agree. Dravid is a very reliable batsman.

      It is nice to see other seniors like Ganguly and Tendulkar have learnt and are playing reliable innings, just like him. Which can only be good for the team.

      But I agree with the author on the World-cup run-out. Dravid had played it towards mid-on, behind the non-striker, it was the batsman's call, not Yuvraj's.

      I am also surprised at the quoted very high number of Dravid's run-outs.
