Really frustrating! It is sad to see such parties harm the nation for thier own interests.
I feel (at the risk of being overly optimistic) that the leftists can't hold off economic growth for very long even in West Bengal, their ultimate strong hold. The need for investments and building a corporate friendly image are too strong for the state govt. to allow a bad precedent be set.

The Communist know that whatever they are preaching is a load of crap. But then there are people who are ready to eat that crap and until there will be people to eat crap they will shit crap. Simple :-)
Problem underlying is that we have let some people of the country remain poor and ignored it. The more we ignore them the more Communist party gains.

Why is there so much anger against the communist party and very less against the inequitable development happening in the country?

Mr. Ray, with due respect, could you please advice, what good the so prestigious IT Sector and ITES Sector would gain from joining the Union, when so many of us (IT Guys and/or ITES guys) have accomplished much WITHOUT a stinking Trade Union???
What happened to the Coca Cola in Plachimuda or the Dubai Internet City in Thiruvananthpuram? You want the same thing happen to Satyam, Infosys, Patni ????
If answer is yes.. then I guess rest of us should enjoy the moment and welcome the "development" that these Trade Unions would do like we had till 90s.

Hey confused you beeinthebonnet, I am just a Satyajit Ray fan and not a Bengali ;-)
Wdm2a,
I would be totally against IT guys joining a union because union in the traditional sense is a solution for manufacturing sector problems and IT guys are reasonably well taken care of by HR ppl and so don't need a union perse.
I was just asking everyone why there was so much anger against the communist party as such? They are milking the votes of the poor ppl. So the key question is that why did so many people remain poor in India? I don't think the Communist party is to be blamed for that! What say?
