Well it seems that mainsteam media i.e. television has finally acknowledged the power of new media i.e. the internet. Im not sure how we missed this story which came out a week ago but nevertheless its surely worth dwelling upon. So here it is MTV India announced it nominee's for this years Youth Icon and surprise surprise.. Orkut.com is one of the nominees.. (I am not sure whether shiv sena would agree to that?) The others include Abhishek Bachchan, Multimedia Cellphone (Thats lame.. how about Iphone man!), Rang de basanti the movie and ofcourse YOU! (which i think stands for the entire junta who forms the youth in India from the age 15-24.. Phew! Thank god im still 22!). This just illustrates the fact that even the TV companies have started to realise where the youth is spending most of its time! Though they took the help of research! Yes! The final nominations have been arrived at after a comprehensive research conducted by MTV along with Third Eye research. The sample size included youngsters aged 15-24 across metros.

Orkut is a revolution in itself. Just by making your address book visible, it has enabled people to find long lost friends. I have found several of my old friends. Way to go Orkut....

seriously it rocks....i really doubt how any of these indian social networking site will ever come closer to orkut's popularity

Its a slap on the face of Shiv Sena.

However I am more than 24 but I also like Orkut too much.

I guess on an average an urban Indian would be spending more than twice the time they spend with MTV :-)
